Central Somerset residents are being given the chance to honour those people who make a difference to the community with the launch of a new award. The Central Somerset Gazette has teamed up with events organiser Alex Maine to launch this year’s Pride of Central Somerset Awards. We want you to help nominate who should be chosen for this special accolade. The awards celebrate the positive contribution that people make in the community. “We just want to hear about people who have shown that extra spirit to do something exceptional, whatever it may be,” said Alex, former director of the National Variety Performance, organiser of the Somerset Variety Performance and director of the Somerset County Awards, who is arranging the event in conjunction with Central Somerset Gazette. “From caring for others and the environment to doing something amazing, we know there are people out there who display tremendous generosity, courage, talent and passion and we think that they should be recognised for their achievements.”
Anyone can make a nomination, simply by filling in the form, or by making an online nomination before December 31. “It’s so important that we recognise those people who work tirelessly to try and make the area a better place,” said Philip Welch, editor of the Central Somerset Gazette. “It’s easy to concentrate on the bad things that happen in an area, and often those people who are quietly trying to improve things are overlooked. “We’re hoping to put that right with this award ceremony and celebrate all the good that people do in the Street and Glastonbury area.” All nominations will be treated in the strictest confidence.
