Yellow Day – Martha Care Trust

Good Morning, I received an email late last night from Maggie Mickshik so i thought seeing i wont be hear on the 3rd of April, i would do my best to make up for it and remind the people of Mid Somerset what is happening. The Martha care Trust are running a Yellow Day which is backed by Glastonbury Town Council.

The Martha Care Trust was launched after seven-year-old Martha Mickshik, a St John’s Infant School pupil, died in May 2006 from a long-term brain tumour. Since then her mum Maggie Mickshik has been raising money to help other families caring for seriously ill or injured children in Bristol’s Frenchay Hospital, where Martha was treated. Martha Care are arranging the Yellow Day to help to raise funds for the charity and are calling on the community and local businesses to get involved with the event.

Some of the events already planned ‘as received’ from the email

St John’s school (contact Wendy Turner 01458 832085) who are theming their Easter Bonnet parade yellow and holding a school “yellow Day” with children wearing something yellow to raise funds, supported by St John’s church (Contact David MacGeoch 01458 830060).

St Benedicts school (contact Chris Lewis 01458 831811) will also be holding a “Yellow day”, again pupils will wear something Yellow to raise funds.

St Dunstan’s school (contact Pamela Stevens 01458 832943) are holding a Yellow Day.

Glastonbury Rainbow and Brownie packs are also holding a yellow day (Contact: Suzie Grist on 01458 833002) and selling yellow flower brooches.

Enchanted Florals (contact Nina on 01458 835293) of Glastonbury’s own “Diagon Alley” The Gauntlet are planning to sell yellow posies of spring flowers with the profit going to Martha Care.  Other shops are theming their window displays yellow in support.

Glastonbury town crier Graham Coles and councillor John Coles have put together a DVD on sheepdog training, a rare skill whose practice is dying out due to fewer people learning the skills which are mostly passed from generation to generation.  Profits from the DVD will go to Martha Care and will be launched on Yellow Day.

Joke book number 2 has also been printed and Yellow Day will see it’s launch too.

The day will also see the BBC Radio Somerset bus parked in the Market Place to report on the charity and events taking place throughout the day.

The day’s finale will be a massive balloon release of Floating Memories; yellow balloons will be released with messages for loved ones attached.  The bio-degradable labels will be available for a donation for anyone wanting to send special memories to loved ones.  It makes a lovely alternative to flowers and children especially love sending their special messages up to heaven to those who have passed on.

So make sure you join in. I was sent a poster last night and i wanted to make it more distributable for people so i quickly put this together in JPEG format. Please feel free to download it and display it.

As many of you already know the reason i wont be here is because i would have already left for Canada. So to do our little bit we are going to donate five pounds for every digital copy we sell of the Pride of Central Somerset which will be available to download from the 3rd April from this site. The Pride of Central Somerset actually includes an award being handed to the Marth Care Trust so we thought it was quite fitting. The exact price of the digital download is unknown at this time as the DVD Set is still available until Friday. I will post more details soon via this blog.

From everyone at the Pride of Central Somerset and from me and Tara, we wish you all the best and we hope you raise lots of money. its a good cause and we are happy to support it and we are so sorry we wont be here. We hope that our little gesture will help in someway to you reaching your target. Feel free to call upon us for anything you may need.

I love this idea Alex. Just one more example of you supporting those who need support and not doing anything for profitable gain.

Thanks Alex, especially for your kind offer to donate £5 from each download. All the best for moving to Canada and thanks for all your support.
